TV Marries Print : UTVi to Share Business Standard ABC Content

Indian Media world will soon witness the marriage of Print and television . UTVi, the soon to be launched English business news channel by UTV has announced a tie-up with the financial daily, Business Standard . The business channel will also share content with ABC International Television (Asia Pacific).

“Business Standard is one of the most respected business dailies in India and is the first choice of serious business readers. We see considerable synergy and learning for us. BS has some of the country’s best economic journalists and the highest standards when it comes to quality, credibility and accuracy, qualities we will imbibe in our own coverage of business and economic issues,” Govindraj Ethiraj, editor-in-chief, UTVi said .

The channel will air BS wire, BS alerts and BS breaking news along with business bytes throughout the day. It will use business content to keep the audience updated with latest developments on the business news front, with inputs from Business Standard bureaus. The strategic alliance will give a boost to UTVi’s content.

“We are happy to partner with UTVi in this venture. This alliance gives us an excellent opportunity to combine the quality content of a business newspaper with the immediacy of television news,” TN Ninan, editor, Business Standard said.

UTVi will endeavour to get into the Business Standard newsroom to showcase senior journalists and subject experts. The views of these journalists and experts will be captured on air through programs such as a stock market preview in the morning, an edit page review or overview, and news items such as “Tomorrow?s Headlines Tonight”.

BS will also share research from the BS Research Bureau that can be showcased on UTVi. BS in turn will publish extracts of interviews and stories telecast on UTVi, as well as occasionally print the highlights of big shows and interviews shown on the channel.

UTVi has also concluded a strategic content tie-up with Disney-ABC International Television (Asia Pacific), the international TV distribution arm of The Walt Disney Company, for ABC News programming and services. This collaboration offers UTVi audiences a global perspective and international programming.

    I don’t think UTVi has any of it’s own content. It has also stolen the tag line from an online business magazine. has been using We mean Business since the atleast the last 7-8 years.
