The Philadelphia Tribune, the nation’s oldest and the Greater Philadelphia Region’s largest newspaper serving the African-American community, today announced that Michael Morton, 43, of Laverock, PA has won a Blackberry smartphone as the first-week winner of its four-week-long “Win Cool Stuff” website contest.
Commenting on his win, Morton said, “I’m shocked … . I never won anything before.” He added that his initial reason for visiting the site, http://www.phillytrib.com/, was for news coverage about the National Baptist Convention, recently held here. Once on The Tribune’s website, he saw the banner for the contest and decided to take a chance.
A winner for the second week of the contest will be drawn on Monday, September 24, 2007, and will be presented with another Blackberry smartphone.
“The response that we have received thus far has been very strong and very diverse,” said The Philadelphia Tribune’s Information Technology Manager Todd Edwards. “Regular and new readers are enjoying the site’s latest capabilities, ranging from the Associated Press video network to the interactive presentation of editorial content.”
