Rahul Kanwal began his career as youngest anchor and reporter with Zee
News in 1999. He has done a course in Broadcast Journalism from Cardiff
University (UK) and is also the recipient of the Rory Peck award .
Before joining Headlines Today as Executive Editor , Rahul was working
as a prime time news anchor and the defence and external affairs
correspondent with the network.
Till December 2010 Seedhi Baat was hosted by Prabhu Chawla who later
quit as Editor (Languages) at the India Today Group and joined The New
Indian Express as Editorial Director.
The show was assigned to M J Akbar who joined as Editorial Director of
India Today Group in January this year. Sources say Mr Akbar failed to
dent Prabhu Chawla’s popularity as the host of Seedhi Baat .
The new arrangement comes as a bid to restore the popularity of the show
as Prabhu Chawla after leaving the group did his best to harness the
fruits by hosting similar show ( Sachchi Baat) on ETV network and
recently on the rival news channel IBN7 (Teekhi Baat).
Prabhu Chawla had hosted over 450 episodes of ‘Seedhi Baat’ on Aaj Tak
during the past decade . He had won Best News and Current Affairs Anchor
award (The Indian Television Academy Award ) Seedhi Baat in 2009.
Seedhi Baat is said to be the brainchild of Prabhu Chawla and is one of
the most popular Hindi Talk shows in India. Chawla had left TV Today
network bigwigs guessing when he was roped in as host of Teekhi Baat by
the rival IBN7 Hindi news channel in August this year.
Prabhu Chawla is known for his straighforward and poignant questions
which left may celebrities unanswered on Seedhi Baat. Rahul Kanwal will
have to compete with Prabhu Chawla who is already hosting a similar show
in IBN7….Good Luck Rahul.
