Mumbai: Radio One 94.3 FM, the joint venture between Mid-day Multimedia & BBC Worldwide, has entered into an MOU with the prestigious Symbiosis International University to offer an “Advance Certificate Course in Radio Management” at the SIMC campus in Pune beginning October 5th 2009. This will be launched on 20th September at the NATIONAL RADIO MEET conducted by Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communications, Pune.
The course will cover all the aspects of radio right from the Regulatory Framework, to Programming / Production / On Air, Sales and Marketing and explore future radio trends. The course duration will be 6 months. The course will be conducted twice a year and will have 100 hours of classroom teaching followed by extensive practical training for the students at any of Radio One’s 7 cities namely Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Kolkata. The toppers of the course are likely to get an opportunity to visit radio stations in London OR get a refund of their fees apart from exploring opportunities to work with Radio One. This initiative is likely to extend to the Bangalore campus of SIU also in the near future.
Apart from the certificate course Symbiosis students will run their own show on Radio One in Pune between 4-5pm everyday called ‘SYMBI FM’ which will cover topics of youth interest interspersed with the music that the youth enjoys. This would allow the students to get a ‘real feel’ of the business of radio from not just a programming perspective but also advertising sales for the hour will be handled by the Symbiosis students under the guidance of Radio One’s sales team.

The education initiative at Radio One is being driven by Sabina Sanghvi who is the head of the radio, print and online business in Pune. “Sabina has created an exciting space for Radio One in the city of Pune in the shortest span of time. She and her team have delivered a business model that is ripe with opportunities and the new education initiative starting first with Pune is another feather in her cap”, added Vineet.
