Percept bags CBC's events and marketing rights

The Indian Boxing Federation has appointed media and communications company Percept as event and marketing partner for the ensuing Commonwealth Boxing Championship to be held at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi.

As the event and marketing partner, Percept will be responsible for organising and getting sponsorships for the event scheduled to be held from 10-18 March. The IBF is apparently looking to raise Rs 10.75 million in sponsorships from the event, which will used to test the venue for the Commonwealth Games scheduled from 3-14 October.

IBF secretary general PKM Raja had earlier told SportzPower that IOS and LSM are the two companies which had been shortlisted for the CBC. “We are still working out the details, but Percept is going to work for us for the Commonwealth Boxing Championship,” Raja now informs.

Raja said the federation had arranged around 1800 seats out of the total of 3035 for the common spectators at the CBC. “Roughly around 1800 seats will be available for the public, while the rest will be for participating teams, their boxers, coaches, and managers – that would around 200-250 people. Then we have people from the organising committee, local dignitaries, MDMC, other local organizers, so another 800-1000 would be available for them.”

The Talkatora Stadium is fully air-conditioned with circular seating. There would also be a giant score board, which will have a slow motion replay between the rounds. Scores would also be displayed on all sides of the plasma screen. The adjacent building to the competition venue will have boxers lounge, warm-up area, and press lounge amongst others.

Queried about the ticket pricing, Raja said, “It will not be very high, the pricing will be affordable to the common man.” As many as 120 boxers from 14 countries – England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Kenya, Samoa, Singapore and hosts India – will vie for the 40 medals at stake. Pakistan and Bangladesh have, however, yet to confirm their participation. The entire championship will be telecast live on DD Sports.
