Probe will reveal who was responsible for ad: Congress

Mon, 25 Jan 2010 22:05:00

New Delhi: The Congress Monday refused to comment on the role of the Women and Child Development Ministry in the inclusion of a former Pakistan Air Force chief's photograph in a government advertisement, saying inquiries have been ordered into the lapse.

"We have to wait for inquiry reports to know who was responsible," Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told reporters here.

He said a probe has been ordered by the Prime Minister's office and the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) had also ordered an inquiry.

The advertisement, which appeared in an English daily to mark the National Girl Child Day, carried the photograph of former Pakistan Air Force chief Tanveer Ahmed along with pictures of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath, who initially maintained that the message was more important than the photograph, later said that the lapse will be investigated.

The publicity material for the advertisement was released by the ministry through the Department of Audio-Visual Publicity (DAVP) after approval from the minister's office.
