The Economist registers 25% Circulation growth in India

Mumbai : An insatiable global demand for knowledge combined with The Economist's unique reach, insight and perspective on the world, has seen the publication defy the economic downturn with a continued growth in circulation.

Continuing with its global march to engage yet more readers, The Economist today posted a 57th consecutive rise in six-monthly ABC figures and a doubling of global circulation since 1999. This means the publication is in a strong position for further growth despite the uncertain economic times.

ABC figures (For the period of July - December 2009) released today show global year-on-year growth of 2.16%, and a total worldwide circulation of 1,420,766, with weekly readership of The Economist now exceeding four million.

In India, circulation of The Economist has continued its growth story with a 25% increase year-on-year. (Circulation of 24,442). This follows a 27% increase in the last period (Jan-June 2009)

Suprio Guha Thakurta, Managing Director, The Economist Group, India, said: "The continuing growth of The Economist's India circulation is extremely satisfying. It reaffirms our belief that Indians are becoming increasingly interested in the world. And they are turning to The Economist for its unique analysis and insight."
