National Geographic, in collaboration with leading outdoor products company New Creative(TM), has developed a line of high-quality outdoor living furnishings debuting Nov. 1, 2007 in retail stores, including most Wild Bird Unlimited stores, and on Amazon.com. The line consists of accent furniture, fountains, decor accessories and birding products. Net proceeds from the sale of National Geographic’s Home Collection products are dedicated to the World Cultures Fund that supports the study and preservation of world cultures.
As Americans continue to spend more time outdoors, backyards have become havens, outfitted with furniture, decor and birding products that enhance the natural environment. The increase in outdoor activities such as birding, the fastest-growing wildlife-related hobby in the United States, encourages individuals, families and children to explore their own backyards. The National Geographic outdoor living and birding product line is designed to meet the needs of this growing pastime and was developed with the guidance of respected conservationists, ornithologists, researchers and everyday birding enthusiasts.
“Our goal was to create a line of outdoor products that is both aesthetically pleasing and authentic,” said Krista Newberry, vice president of licensing, home furnishings, for National Geographic. “Collaborating with experts, including our own National Geographic ornithologist Dr. George Watson, ensures that the products make a positive contribution to wildlife while bringing the mystery and wonder of nature to people of all ages.”
“National Geographic’s knowledge of and dedication to wildlife is unrivaled,” said Benno Duenkelsbuehler, president of NCE, parent company of New Creative. “As a leader in outdoor living and nature products, we are very happy to partner with National Geographic.”
Inspired by National Geographic’s No. 1 best-selling book, “National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America,” the National Geographic Outdoor Living line offers the ability to transform a backyard into a comfortable haven. Blue and green hues of glass and ceramic, reflecting the colors of nature, combine with designs that bring the book’s illustrations to life and complement any outdoor setting. Included with each birding product is educational information, with feeding tips by Watson as well as excerpts from “National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America.”

National Geographic also offers a variety of other birding products, including interactive birding software such as Handheld Birds by pullUin, a line of optics by Citiwell to help identify birds that populate backyard habitats, bird publications by National Geographic Books and bird habitat live plants by Floragem.
