MTV Networks Japan launches new streaming video service in Japan

MTV Networks Japan (MTVNJ) has announced the launch of a new service, which enables users to view free of charge a wide-ranging catalogue of content including music video clips from major record labels such as Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group and a broad range of clips from the MTV Networks International content library.

The new service will allow users to enjoy music clips from top Universal recording artists such as Mariah Carey, Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West, Metallica, and Ne-Yo and top Warner recording artists such as Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Daniel Powter, My Chemical Romance and Flo Rida as well as premier content from MTV Networks International’s library such as “THE HILLS”, “MTV Cribs,” and MTVNJ’s original hit animation, “Usavich”.

As a special feature, MTVNJ will exclusively premiere Green Day’s new video “Know Your Enemy” (Reprise) on April 24 in Japan. It is the lead single from Green Day’s long-awaited new set “21st Century Breakdown,” which will be released May 15. This exclusive premiere is part of the first global cross-channel video premiere for MTV and VH1 networks.

“This new functionality is an integral part of our evolution towards seamless and rich cross-platform experience of the MTV brand in Japan,” said Paul Greenberg, Vice President/General Manager, Digital Media, North Asia, MTVNJ.

The new video streaming service will provide an additional tool for artists and labels to deepen their relationship with existing fans as well as reach new fans. And it will allow music fans to access MTV’s wealth of content in a high-quality premier online experience.

The introduction of this VOD functionality adds video advertising to MTVNJ’s existing suite of online advertising products.
