MHA to tackle Naxalism with Advertising

Ministry of Home Affairs, government of India is gearing up to tackle the fierce naxlites with a new weapon i.e.media. According to the ministry sources, officials are working on a print and radio advertising campaign which will soon be launched in naxal hit states like Jharkhand, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Bihar, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. The campaign will also be launched in north- east states (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) where terrorism and separatist forces have raised head from last two decades.

“The campaign is a part of action plan -2 to control terrorism and separatist activities. It will erudite people about the bad effects of naxalism,” a ministry official told requesting anonymity.

According to the sources, Ministry of Home Affairs has produced small radio jingles in local languages which will be aired on government owned radio stations in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

“Radio jingles will encourage people to join the mainstream development and to oppose terrorism and separatist activities,” sources said.

Indian government was in a piquant situation recently when the locals at many places not only openly supported terrorist groups but also compelled the government to cease anti -terrorism drives. The media campaign is the outcome of this situation.

Ministry of Home Affairs, the sources said, will soon launch a print campaign in naxal hit states like Jharkhand, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Bihar, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh.

“The campaign will be launched in vernacular and local dailies and will reveal how separatist activities are responsible for unemployment and poverty,” sources said.
