M J Akbar appointed Editorial Director, India Today

Veteran journalist M J Akbar has been appointed Editorial Director, India Today English and India Today – International.According to an internal mail , M J Akbar has also been appointed as Editorial Director of Headlines Today news channel.

Mobashar Jawed “M.J.” Akbar (born 11 January 1951) is a leading Indian journalist and author. He is the Editor in Chief of weekly newspaper “The Sunday Guardian”. He is also the founder and former editor-in-chief and managing director of The Asian Age, a daily multi-edition Indian newspaper with a global perspective. Akbar was also the editor-in-chief of The Deccan Chronicle, a Hyderabad-based news daily.

Prabhu Chawla , Editor , India Today has been redesignated as CEO and Editor (Languages). He will explore possibilities to bring more Indian language digital and print titles in future. The group is likely to launch more language publications in the future.

India Today Group had recently closed some regional language editions.

The restructuring will be effective from September 24, 2010.
