Lorna Clarke to Step Down from BBC 1Xtra

Lorna Clarke is relinquishing her role as Head of Programmes, BBC 1Xtra to focus soley on the BBC Electric Proms.She currently combines the role of Head of Programmes, 1Xtra with the position of Festival Director, BBC Electric Proms.

Andy Parfitt, Controller, 1Xtra, says: “Lorna has delivered a much stronger 1Xtra, successfully introducing a new schedule alongside a number of significant events. She is a surefooted leader and I wish her every success for the future.”

Lorna Clarke says: “I’m proud of what has been achieved in my time at 1Xtra. The network is in good health, and is achieving a new record reach of 600,000 listeners a week.”

Lorna was appointed as Festival Director for the BBC Electric Proms in January 2006 and as Head of Programmes for 1Xtra in November 2006.
As Festival Director, BBC Electric Proms, she is responsible for the delivery of the multi-platform live music event which broadcasts across BBC Two, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC 6 Music, 1Xtra, BBC Asian Network and BBC Local Radio. She will leave 1Xtra in March 2009.

The post of Head of Programmes, BBC 1Xtra, will be advertised in the New Year.
