James Toseland named top BBC Sports Personality

The Sheffield-born rider, 27, won the World Superbike Championship for a second time at Magny-Cours in October and was presented with the BBC award during a star-studded event in Barnsley hosted by BBC Look North presenters Harry Gration, Christa Ackroyd and sports presenter Tanya Arnold.

Harry said: “James was up against some real competition and this is actually the second time he has won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award which is a fantastic tribute to this man’s appeal.”

The BBC Yorkshire Sporting Unsung Hero Of The Year Award was won by Kevin Conway from Hemsworth Miners Welfare Community FC.

Conway, of Fitzwilliam, Pontefract, will be a special guest at the national Sports Personality Of The Year show in Birmingham on Sunday 9 December. Robinsons is for the first time the event sponsor. They also sponsored the Sporting Unsung Hero Award, now in its fifth year, which recognises and rewards outstanding contribution by individuals at the grassroots level of local sport.

Bursaries of up to £2,500 have been made available to the winners of each regional award, to help them with their work in sport.
