India adds 264.77 million Telephone Subscribers

India has added 264.77 million telephone connections till November 2007, a Telephone Authority Regulatory Authority (TRAI) release said on Monday.

‘Total 8.22 million telephone connections have been added during November 2007 as compared to 7.89 million connections added in October 2007. The total number of telephone connections are 264.77 million at the end of November 2007 as compared to 256.55 million in October 2007. The overall tele-density is 23.21% at the end of November 2007 as against 22.52% in October 2007’ S.K.Gupta, Advisor (CN), TRAI said.

India has the fastest growing telecom sector and is adding more than seven million subscribers every month . The country has registered almost 250 million subscribers three months ahead of the target date,’ A.Raja, Minister of Communications and Information Technology said recently.

In the wireless segment, there is an addition of 8.32 million subscribers in the month of November 2007 as against 8.05 million subscribers added in the month of October 2007. The total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA & WLL(F)) base is 225.46 million at the end of November 2007. In the wireline segment, subscriber base has decreased to 39.31 million in the month of November 2007 as against 39.41 million subscribers in October 2007.
