CNBC-TV18 announces new show 'Capitalism in Crisis'

Mumbai: CII and CNBC-TV18 has announced new series, “Capitalism in Crisis”. Based on a book by Planning Commission member and the former chairman of the Boston Consulting Group in India – Arun Maira, this limited edition series is conceived as a series of ‘thought-summits’ across India’s major cities.

Since the first wave of the global financial crisis surfaced in 2008, there has been a gradual increase in the ‘intellectual interest’ in rethinking capitalism; questioning if prevalent practices leave enough room for emotional concern, and if indeed this is now imperative to achieve a more sustainable form of capitalism.

The series aims to bring together business leaders, policy-makers and practitioners of successful trusteeship business models to present ideas for the road ahead. The series will showcase views from some of the biggest names in business including: Billionaire investor Warren Buffett, Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum, Adi Godrej, Richard Levin the President of Yale University, Stuart Hart the co-Author of ‘Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid’, Arun Maira of the Planning Commission, Gautam Thapar of the Avantha Group, Pramod Bhasin from Genpact, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Wim Elfrink of Cisco, B Muthuraman of Tata Steel, Jay Panda and Anu Aga of Thermax.

Speaking on the launch of the show, Saket Saurabh, Head – Marketing, CNBC-TV18 said “Since the financial crisis and then the global economic slowdown, the western model of capitalism has been under tremendous scrutiny. There’s been raging debate about how free markets must also be fair and how capitalism must evolve into a more inclusive and progressive system. This new series captures the richness of this debate with some of the world’s leading economic minds”
