Uttar Pradesh is home to some of the oldest civilizations in the world. It has the youngest population in the country and hence the highest demographic dividend. The number of youth under 21, equals the entire population of USA. Yet, the highest levels of unemployment in India are prevalent here. Even though it has some of the worlds biggest and the most beautiful monuments, yet the tourism record is abysmal. The great plains of Uttar Pradesh are some of the most fertile lands in the country. Yet, the agricultural productivity is one of the lowest in the world due to low penetration of irrigation and modern techniques.

Commenting on the new initiative, Sanjay Pugalia, Editor, CNBC Awaaz, said, “Many believe that traditionally the state has been associated with lawlessness and corruption. But the winds of change are already stirring and what lies ahead is the tremendous task of the transformation of Uttar Pradesh. And this we believe lies in empowering the people of the state, in strengthening the local economy, in ensuring ample employment opportunities within the state and in capitalizing on the state’s demographic dividend.”

He further added, “With UP Rising, we at CNBC AWAAZ aim to bring together India’s future generations from the IITs and IIMs, SMEs, private sector, regulators and the government together on the same platform in an attempt to chart the way forward for a turnaround of this land. UP Rising will travel to cities and colleges across the state and put the spotlight on the issues that ail its economy and society today.”
