'Child' Magazine Enters Indian Market

Media Transasia India Ltd on Monday launched first issue of the English monthly parenting magazine, ‘Child’ in the Indian market. Child was simultaneously launched across India’s main and mini metros. The magazine is aimed at urban, professional and progressive dads and moms who are keenly involved in upbringing their children and want to raise happy, healthy kids.

‘We are entering into the Indian market with 1 Lac copies. Special trade promotions are being done to ensure that every parent walking into the store is told about the magazine. The launch issue has a special jacket packaging that is expected to catch attention at the newsstand and also boost sales from stands’, Piyush Sharma, CEO & Publisher , Child magazine said.

Child is being brought out under license from the Meredith Corporation, USA, which has brought out the world’s premier parenting brands under its Parenthood Group: Parents, American Baby.

Child will be the magazine that Indian parents will turn to when looking to find expert advice or share their experiences. There is a huge void in the parenting and child-care segment which Child intends to fulfill. Besides the magazine caters to a wide age group, from pre birth to 12 years, which obviously is a huge customer base. Child combines world wisdom with local content relevant to the Indian family, school and social environment. Its content will graduate to 70% local and 30% international drawn from Parents and American Baby, from Meredith Corporation, USA.

“Child’s launch issue encapsulates vividly all that is going to unfold between the covers of the magazine in the coming very exciting months. The range of issues and activities featured is phenomenal: from asthma to attitude, summer food to school, relationships to holidays, clothes, craft, special pages for moms and dads, reward coupons for children, new products for kids and much more. The magazine has been designed to create an emotional, positive and cheerful connect with parents” ,Vatsala Kaul Banerjee, Editor, ‘Child’, said.

In India, there are nearly 20 million children born every year, out of which 28% are in the urban sector. But regardless of where you live, the joys and anxieties of raising a child are universal. Indian parents need a reference point for all their queries and doubts.

Research studies lead us to an understanding that the market size influenced by children worldwide is at more than $100 billion, thereby driving millions of purchases by parents. Children spend nearly $4.2 billion annually on personal purchases. The generation of 5.6 million young decision-makers is not only influencers but are a huge and demanding market by themselves.

Child pre launch in India took off with a countrywide promotion, That Special Something* Child Cover Hunt, a fun, fair and safe search for children who could be the face of Child. The response for the cover hunt has been tremendous.

Besides the opportunity to be on the cover of Child, the winners will receive gifts worth 1 lakh each, a framed winner’s plaque and an official certificate of placement. All participants will get a free one-year sub scri ption to Child and all child participants will receive a personalized participation certificate.

“The Child Cover Hunt is a huge success. We have had to extend the date from March 31st due to the demand. We are currently at around 21,000 entries but should be able to reach 35,000 by the end of April. Also, we have individual sub scri ptions of around 12,000, thereby taking the total sub scri ption count to 33,000 copies to start with.” said Mr Piyush Sharma, CEO & Publisher.
