BIG 92.7 FM’s Green Ganesha a huge success

As BIG 92.7 FM, India’s No. 1 Radio Station Network, culminated its Ganesha festivities amidst great pomp and festivity across its cities of Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Indore, Bhopal, Baroda and Surat, it left the people with a message… the importance to Go Green and stay eco-friendly way, one of the pressing issues that has been plaguing not just India, but the world – through Global Warming. When BIG 92.7 FM conceptualized the unique idea of the eco-friendly Ganesha made from paper mache… paper for which was collected from the people of the city, little did they know or think of the impact and influence it would have on millions of people who have promised to follow suit next year round.

The festivities hosted during the Ganesha festival saw crowds gather in large numbers each day at locations, as people from across the City who had contributed newspapers flocked to see their newspapers convert into a masterpiece! The local populace ranging from young kids to the senior citizens all visited the Ganesha’s which were placed at prominent city locations. The arati each day saw the very enthusiastic jocks pray along with the congregation, which led into hours of quizzes, contests and much more which kept the crowds thoroughly entertained.

Celebrities in each city weren’t far behind in supporting the cause and came forward in large numbers to render their support and offer their prayers to the Lord Ganesha.

Mumbai saw a celebrity line up ranging from Randeep Hooda, Suniel Shetty – who also unveiled the Champions trophy and being the cricket buff that he is, prayed for Team India’s win at the matches to be held shortly. Actor Aftab Shivdasani and Tulip Joshi came to offer prayers for their films success. Not missing the excellent marvel were singer Kailash Kher, Bappi Leheri and music director Anandji to came in to sing the arati and pay their respects. The final arati was performed by Actor Shreyas Talpade for his soon to be released film. Soothing devotional songs reverberated in the mall drawing crowds’ together and generating a lot of excitement as well as interactions from the audiences.

The Bangalore Station saw huge excitement from stars ranging Yash who donated newspapers himself. Also joining in creating awareness for the cause were celebrities like Srinagar Kitte, Kiran Srinivas, Duniya Vijay and Tarun Chandra.

The Hyderabad Station’s offered a complete entertainment spread during the nine days of Ganesha celebration. Tollywood actors and singers who already visited the paper Ganesha were Dev Gill, Krishnadu, actress Aarti Agrawal , Madhavi Lata, Singers Hemachandra and Sunitha, Lyricists Ramjogiah Shastry, Visva Music Director’s RP Patnaik and Koti. To promote an eco-friendly society and to entertain people with message oriented activities during the Ganesha celebrations, BIG FM also organized a Rangoli competition which themed around ‘Musical Ganesha’. The participants were asked to craft rangoli showing different sketches of Ganesha integrated with a musical element or instrument. BIG Paper Ganesha’s immersion procession was uniquely organized on a Horse Buggi which caught thousands of eye-balls on the way for its grand presentation. RJ’s danced with people; there was a huge mass dancing by the BIG FM listeners on the roads to take the Ganesha for immersion, despite of heavy rains, people danced with the RJ’s through out the way.

Similar pomp and show was exhibited in each of the other cities too.

BIG FM’s drive to enlighten the issue of environmental awareness was well addressed and noticed by the local authorities e.g. The Mumbai Pollution control board which also got involved in this noble cause. Interesting facts shared with the audiences about how small things could make big differences and control environmental damage were well received.

The fact that this saw more sale of Eco- friendly Ganesha and increased awareness amongst masses in general about contributing towards preserving the environment encourages us to take this initiative forward and further the awareness.”
