SPE Networks – Asia (SPENA), which operates the leading English-language general entertainment channel, AXN, has successfully secured placement for the action and adventure channel on all three IPTV platforms in Korea. Having debuted on Korea Telecom’s Qook TV in November 2008, AXN is now also available on the basic package of LG Dacom’s myLGtv (channel 33), as well as SK Broadband’s broad&tv (channel 402). With the two new deals, AXN claims the title of being the only international general entertainment channel to feature in all of Korea’s IPTV platforms.
Ricky Ow, senior vice president & general manager, SPE Networks – Asia, said, “Since the day we launched AXN in Korea, we have announced our intention to aggressively pursue this market. I am proud to say that our expansion strategy is on track, and to be the first international GE channel to secure placement on all the IPTV platforms in Korea is certainly icing on the cake.”
These agreements are part of AXN’s expansion plans in Korea since it launched there in 2005. Besides increasing its presence through platform agreements, AXN also upgraded its Korea feed to HD beginning in March 2009.
