Andrey Purushottam appointed MRUC Chairman

Media Research Users Council (MRUC) had its 15th AGM on Wednesday in Mumbai followed by the Board of Governing Council meeting. The Board unanimously voted Andrey Purushottam to take over as the new Chairman from the outgoing Chairman Mr G Kishnan of TV Today Network. Andrey was serving as the Vice Chairman of the Council for the last two year before taking over as the Chairman. Mr Bharat Kapadia, Director, Lokmat Group, has been elected the Vice Chairman of MRUC.

Mr Krishnan has handed over the baton of making MRUC more relevant, and more representative of the Advertising, Media and Marketing industry to Andrey.

Mr Krishnan’s tenure of two years as the Chairman saw MRUC going beyond the IRS to deliver significant value for some of the other constituents of the media industry viz. Outdoor. It also saw MRUC moving in the direction of greater co-operation amongst the various industry constituents. The initiation of a dialog with the NRSC to bring out one comprehensive readership survey and the close working with the MRSI to bring out a new consumer classification system are an example of this co-operation.

On his appointment, Purushottam said, “I’ve set three key priorities for the Council. One – to come up with an enhanced readership survey IRS, that advertisers, agencies, publishers and other media can make effecient use of. Two – to pioneer new forms of research in other media such as internet and outdoor. Three – to make the MRUC more inclusive for all constituents concerned.”

And he is more than capable of doing so. Andrey has had a distinguished career spanning 22 years in general management, business strategy, advertising, marketing and media, in India and abroad. He is the CEO Mumbai Mantra, the media and an entertainment company that the Mahindra group has launched. Mumbai Mantra, has already entered the business of movie production and has several projects on hand for the Indian market.

Andrey started his career in client servicing in Lintas India, and then went on to become a senior Brand Manager in Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL). He had a second stint in Lintas India and was then seconded to Lintas Indonesia for the Unilever Business as Director, client servicing. He returned to India as Head of Initiative Media in Lintas India, a position he held for 2 years before he took up his next assignment as the Managing Director of, a start-up venture. His last assignment was as the Managing Director of Starcom India.

Andrey has had an outstanding educational background. He has done a Masters degree in Business Administration from IIM–Ahmedabad with specialization in Marketing, and has obtained his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT – Delhi.

He is a passionate bridge player having won several state level tournaments in Mumbai, Goa & Pune. His wife Sangeeta is a batchmate from IIMA and heads institutional business of Religare. He has three children, which includes a pair of twins!

The Media Research Users Council is a registered not-for-profit body of members drawn from major Advertisers, Advertising Agencies, Publishers, and Broadcasters/Other Media. It was formed with the sole purpose of organizing accurate, timely, efficient and economical media research in the country, across all forms of media. As the name says, the MRUC is a user body. It exists solely to serve the interests of it members, as far as media research is concerned
