‘Varisth Nagrik Kesari Club’ , which works for the cause and care of Senior Citizens , celebrated its Founder’s Day on 1st October 2008, at Sirifort Auditorium. The Honorable Chief Guest of the occasion Home Minister, Shivraj Patil praised the efforts of the club and said “Ageing is a stage where hair turns grey but if your mind is active and alive then you are not old but senior. After crossing a certain age people tend to loose interest in life and consider themselves as worthless but old age is not an end of life but a new beginning. Years of experience add on to a person’s ability, an active and healthy mind never gets old.”
On this occasion Smt. Najma Heptullah, Member of Parliament & Former Deputy Speaker Rajya Sabha was presiding over the event. To add more glows in the occasion, Priyanka Vadhera, Rajiv Shukla, Madan Lal Khurana, Trilochan Singh, Kumar Sanu and many well known dignitaries were present. Renowned Punjabi Folk and Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans filled the ambiance with his soulful songs.
Shivraj Patil further emphasizing on the need for these clubs said, “It is not an old age home but, a senior citizen club which promotes active programmes to make their members young by heart. It is a great effort by Punjab Kesari, where senior citizens are backed with proper respect and care which is requisite in their age. It promotes independence and provides a social atmosphere for seniors. It also provides caregiver relief and encourages volunteering among members. “
A Cultural Programme was presented by the members of the club. Renowned Sufi singer crowned with Padma Bhushan Hans Raj Hans also joined in the celebrations and captured the audience by his unique singing style which encloses natural emotional elements. Everyone present their build instant connection with his soulful songs.
Senior Citizens are a treasure to our society. They have worked hard all these years for the development of the nation as well as the community. They possess a vast experience in different walks of life. The youth of today can gain from the experience of the senior citizens in taking the nation to greater heights. At this age of their life, they need to be taken care of and made to feel special.
Older people are especially vulnerable during and after humanitarian crisis, due to their physical frailty and lack of mobility, they often get neglected. ‘Varisth Nagrik Kesari Club’ & ‘Vridh Kesari Ramesh Chander Trust’ focuses on rehabilitating elders in the wake of disasters. Both the Club is an attempt to develop a positive attitude towards old persons in society, to understand various aspects of old persons’ life. Senior Citizen Kesari Club tries to fill colors in the life of senior citizens by organizing events so that they would feel themselves, confident and energetic.
Punjab Kesari also lays stress on income-generation and micro-credit projects that enable re employment to the members of Varishth Nagrik Kesari Club. Well-equipped medical units in-house doctors and nurses are also there in the club. Through re employment jobs are given to senior citizens of the club.
