Mumbai:The renowned ad gurus, who have made a mark for themselves in the advertising industry, met on 23rd September to shortlist the most creative and innovative works in radio advertising in the prestigious 8th Mirchi KAAN Awards.
Running in its 8th year, the Mirchi Kaan Awards recognizes avant-garde excellence and creativity in the field of advertising. This year as well, the 8th Mirchi Kaan Awards received overwhelming entries in its various categories. On 23rd September the jury, comprising revered personalities from renowned advertising agencies in India, converged to judge the variety of nominations.
The 8th Mirchi KAAN awards this time introduced the ‘Imitate Your Idol’ campaign where it invited young professionals to imitate their idols like Piyush Pandey, Prasoon Joshi, KV Sridhar etc. The activity registered tremendous enthusiasm in every agency as people were eager to imitate their favourite idol. The 8th Mirchi Kaan Awards received overwhelming response with about 250 entries across 16 categories. In addition to it there are special awards for the best writer, best voice and the big one – the crystal award for most outstanding radio commercial of the year.
The winning entries will be felicitated at a gala event in Mumbai on September 28th.

Prasoon Joshi (Executive Chairman & regional Creative Director, McCann Erickson Asia Pacific) said, “I have been a part of the KAAN Awards since inception and have witnessed tremendous growth with each passing year. The significance of radio in the country is growing with a great momentum and Radio Mirchi recognises the efforts towards excellence in the medium with the 8th Mirchi KAAN Awards”.
Josy Paul (Chairman and National Creative Director- BBDO India) said, “I like the innovations and the quality of work that has been displayed in the 8th Mirchi KAAN Awards. Radio Mirchi is doing a great job with its innovative platforms. We also get to experience creative works from other regions we don’t get to listen to normally”.
Ashish Khazanchi (National Creative Director Publicis) said, “Radio advertising has tremendous potential to grow and evolve and the KAAN awards is a step further towards that direction. The ‘Imitate Your Idol’ theme is the best theme that Radio Mirchi has introduced so far.”
Agnello Dias (National Creative Director Taproot India) said, “I have been judging the KAAN Awards since the last 2 years. This year, we have seen some excellent concept-related spots and less spoofs and parodies”.
